5-year-old boy rescued from uncovered drain in Nuapada

Nuapada: A five-year-old boy was rescued from an uncovered drain at Khariar road NAC in this district Sunday morning.

The PHD department of NAC had dug up drains in the locality for laying pipe lines. Due to incessant rain, water flowed on the road at ward no-14, making it impossible to differentiate between the road and the drain. Rahul accidentally slipped into the drain.

Locals, who spotted him inside the drain, rescued him.

“Had people not seen and rescued him, we would not have got him back alive,” Rahul’s family members said.

Notably, an elderly man died after he was swept away and thrown into an open drain by rainwater flowing on the road near Banadurga Temple in Unit VI area in Bhubaneswar August 13 evening.

Harihara Patnaik, a tuition teacher and resident of Unit-VI, and his wife were standing near a place in Unit VI area. Suddenly, a heavy gush of water rushed towards them and swept away Harihara. Later, he got sucked into an open drain and was rescued by fire service personnel.

Though he was rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved.
