5 yr action plan for Similipal approved

Bhubaneswar: The state government Saturday in the Similipal Management Council meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary A P Padhi at Secretariat here approved Rs 64 crore for a five year comprehensive action plan for the Similipal Biosphere Reserve.
The Centre would share 60 per cent of the funds allocated while Orissa government would bear the remaining 40 per cent of it. The comprehensive action plan on conservation, management and development focused on infrastructure and manpower requirement.This apart, annual management plan budget of Rs 4.85crore was also sanctioned for the popular tiger reserve for 2017-18 fiscal, officials informed.
For conservation and protection of the forest Rs 24crore was approved. Officials informed that out of 42 tigers in the state, 39 were in Similipal. The state government had made special provisions for the people staying in the core and buffer areas; if they willed to reside outside the forest area, they added.
