Malkangiri: A day after 12 Maoist sympathisers and five militia men surrendered before the police, 57 more left wing extremism supporters, including 25 women, Sunday gave up before sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Madkar Sambit Sampat here.
All of them belong to Tangaguda village in Chitrangapalli panchayat in this district. Eleven of them are militia men while two are members of the village committee.
The Maoists were identified as Irma Wanjami, Bhiba Madkami, Kas Padiami, Kabasi Aita, Unga Wanjami, Nanda Wanjami, Era Padiami, Ome Madkami, Soma Madkami, Bhima Madkami and Suka Padiami while the village committee members were Ura Kabasi and Irma Padiami.
IIC of Kalimela Bamadeba Nanda and subedar of anti-Naxal cell Debasish Mishra took a patient hearing of the problems of Maoists and their sympathizers during the surrender. They assured the ultras and their sympathisers that the police will ensure implementation of various welfare measures under the rehabilitation policy.
All the Maoist supporters were given away blankets, clothes, study material and schoolbags.
Briefing the media, Sampat said all the surrendered Maoist sympathisers will be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the state government.
Besides, all necessary steps will be taken to ensure their welfare, he added.
According to reports, 19 persons including five militia men and two members of Chetana Natya Mandali had surrendered Saturday.
They belonged to Katuapadar under Kartanpalli panchayat in Mathili block, police said.
The militia men were Ganga Madi, Shukra Kabasi, Chandu Durua, Shukdas Durua and Bamar Kabasi.
Laxman Padiami and Sambaru were theatre activists of the rebel group. As the village is close to Chhattisgarh border, they worked in Darbha Mao Division for five years. PNN
