Udala: Fifty-nine inmates of a shelter home run by Good News India at Chuliaposi under this block in Mayurbhanj district were sent to their homes along with their parents Tuesday.
This step was taken after two days of investigation by the district administration. The shelter home had 61 inmates, two of whom were sent home Monday.
Following a directive from the Collector, a four member-team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit had checked all documents of the shelter home for two days before taking a decision to send the inmates home, said Krushnakalpana Mohanty, chairperson of CWC.
However, the move to send away inmates to their homes without their rehabilitation has drawn flask from various quarters.
The inmates had been staying at a hostel of the shelter home since 2015 and used to study in Chuliaposi Primary school and Udala Girls’ school. All the inmates belong to Scheduled Tribe communities.
Guardians are now worried about the future of their wards.
District child protection officer (DCPO) Mamatamayi Biswal said there are schools in the villages of the inmates. There will be no problem in their education, Biswal added.
The inmates were seen walking with their guardians to Udala bus stand, three km from the shelter home. Locals termed this incident as unfortunate.
