Bhubaneswar, May 17: Leading adventure sports organisation of Odisha, Association for Adventure and Social Activities (AASA) have prepared and sponsored six instructors to participate in British Trail Trek at Himachal Pradesh for five days. After completion of the programme, they will join as instructors in the national adventure camp at Manali to be conducted by National Adventure Club, Chandigarh for a period of one month.
The instructors Chinmay Maharana, Debadutta Samantray, Niranjan Das, Anita Swain, Sasmita Pradhan and Simran Mishra were given a warm send-off by AASA members in an informal function at the Kishore Club premises here Thursday. BAA secretary SR Parija, AASA secretary and Everest conqueror Ganesh Chandra Jena and others were present during the occasion.
Rutuparna-Ameek loses
Odisha pair of Rutuparna Choudhury and Ameek Kiran Batth lost their semifinal match 6-2, 4-6, 10-12 against third seed Bihar duo of Medhavi Singh and Priyam Kumari in the women’s doubles of the AITA-OTA 50k Women’s Ranking tennis tournament at the Mendhasal Courts here Thursday.
Maharashtra and Karnatak pair of Srishti Daas and Vanshita Pathania emerged champions after beating the duo of Medhavi and Priyam 7-5, 6-4 in the final.
Summer camp
One thousand two hundred kids participated in a summer camp, organised by Ispat factory in Rourkela, which started May 2. The camp will conclude June 1. The kids will be taught the basics of various sports disciplines like athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, football, hockey, kabaddi, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and yoga.
The month-long camp is being conducted at various venues like the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, Ispat Stadium, Ispat Basketball Complex, Ispat Indoor Stadium and the chess hall of the Ispat Stadium.
