Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance department has registered criminal cases against 61 Class I officers, as many Class II officers and 383 Class III employees during 2017.
Vigilance sources here said 453 criminal cases were registered during the year and they included 356 private persons and 38 other public servants.
Out of these, 105 cases have been registered for acquisition of disproportionate assets against 110 public servants and 49 private persons amounting to `65.17 crore.
Similarly, 159 trap cases were registered during the period against 169 public servants and five private persons for demanding and accepting bribe from the complainants amounting to`18.86 lakh. As many as 179 corruption cases were registered against 269 public servants and 307 private persons for misappropriation of `16.84 crore and 10 cases have been registered under Essential Commodities Act.
During the year, 232 surprise checks, 160 secret verifications and 307 petition enquiries have been conducted as well as 152 file enquires initiated and 62 criminal cases registered against the public servants and others for their involvement in corrupt practices relating to implementation of rural housing schemes.
During the year 216 accused have been arrested. They included 21 Class-I officers, 24 Class-II officers, 139 Class-III employees, 10 Class-IV employees, 8 other public servants and 14 private persons.
State Vigilance has initiated 595 enquiries against 50 Class-I officers, 55 Class-II officers, 470 Class-III employees, nine Class-IV employees, 41 other public servants and 87 Private persons for their alleged involvement in various acts of corruption/malpractice.
During the period, 442 enquiries were disposed of, out of which 101 enquiries were referred to the respective departments for initiation of departmental action and 251 enquiries were converted into criminal cases, sources said.
