Bhubaneswar: As many as 67 police personnel from Odisha will be conferred with gallantry medals on the occasion of Independence Day this year.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Saturday announced a list of 1,380 police personnel from across India.

“A total 67 gallantry medals have been announced for Odisha Police personnel on Independence Day eve by Government of India. We thank the government for this recognition of valour and courage of Odisha cops. This is the highest number of medals announced for Odisha Police so far, on a single occasion. It is a matter of great pride and celebration for us,” Odisha police said in a press release.

In addition, two other cops namely DSP (SIW) Bhubaneswar Uma Shankar Panda and constable (Vigilance) Bhabagrahi Tripathy have been named for the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for distinguished services, a communique of MHA stated.

Moreover, nine cops from Odisha have bagged the Police Medal (PM) for their meritorious services, the communique added.

It is pertinent to mention here that, in recognition of their excellence in investigation, four officials of Odisha Police were earlier conferred with Union Home minister’s medal for this year.

The four recipients included two police inspectors Debendra Kumar Mallick and Debendra Kumar Biswal and two sub-inspectors Trupti Ranjan Nayak and Srikanta Sahu.
