7-day photo expo at Lalit Kala Akademi

Bhubaneswar: Calibration, a seven-day photo exhibition of engineer-turned photographer Deba Prasad Mohaptra, settled in the USA, was launched at Lalit Kala Akademi here, Tuesday. The exhibition, inaugurated by Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb, has 100 photographs under six categories – Dancers of the world, High Fashion, Portraits, Landscapes, Flowers and Architecture. Born in Jajapur district Mohapatra, who is settled in California, began photography in 1978. The exhibition, which is his first in Orissa, will showcase photography as a work of art. “Camera takes pictures, but photographer makes pictures. I started photography as a hobby but with dedication the hobby became my passion and this has encouraged me to take up photography seriously,’’ he said. Mohapatra has displayed 100 photographs which he had taken in India and abroad. He has tried to portray Indo-western imagery in fashion photography wherein he has shown western dress and Indian jewellery in addition to Odissi and dances of Japan and Thailand. The architecture section features the architecture of India and abroad including the 110-yearold Jagannath temple in Burma. The cave architecture of Udayagiri and Lalitgiri also finds place at the expo.The exhibition will conclude January 8.
