Rayagada: The spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus has reached Rayagada district. With 96 new COVID-19 cases detected from the district Wednesday, the district administration declared complete shutdown for seven days across the district, informed Rayagada district collector Pramod Kumar Behera.
The shutdown will be in force from July 22 to July 29.

While the state government has already announced weekend shutdown in 11 hotspot districts, the Rayagada district administration declared shutdown in the district in anticipation of further spike in number of COVID cases.
During the seven day shutdown period, the district administration will undertake containment measures like contract tracing, symptom checking, ensuring isolation of suspected cases and door to door health screening of people.
The district administration has restricted movement of public and vehicles within and outside the district. Entry and exit points have been closed. All the residents in the district are strictly advised to remain at home.
The district administration has closed all the shops barring essential commodities and medical requirements.
All government and private institutions will also remain closed in the district. However, organisations related to health department in the district will be operational during the shutdown period.
With 96 new cases detected in the district Wednesday, the district’s total tally reached at 338. Out of the total positive cases, 197 are undergoing treatment at hospitals while 139 have recovered from the disease. Two people succumbed to COVID-19 in the district.
