Bhubaneswar: Cocking a snook at the CCTV surveillance system, unknown burglars looted seven houses at Sompur Colony at Atala village in Balianta Tuesday night. Gold, silver ornaments and other valuable worth over `10 lakh were reported to have been stolen during the heist.
The colony of 40 houses was under CCTV surveillance, said sources adding the burglars apparently made all of them defunct before committing the crime. Most of the inhabitants are retired defence personnel, businessmen and journalists.
The burglars are understood to have used gas-cutters to unlock the houses. They allegedly had marked the houses for better identification as the inhabitants were away. Balianta police and forensic team cordoned off the area and began an investigation into it. Deepali Ghosh of Plot No. 32 and Abinash Pal of Plot No. 6 are among other complainants whose houses have been burgled.
