Kendrapara: The Odisha Police Wednesday arrested a 72-year-old man from Kendrapara district for allegedly raping his minor granddaughter multiple times, officials said.
The 12-year-old girl had been living with her grandfather and other family members in a village in the district, they said.
The accused allegedly raped the girl several times at their residence and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the crime to anyone, a police officer said.
The girl later confided in her paternal aunt, who lodged a police case Tuesday.
Acting on the complaint, we launched an investigation and arrested the accused, said Tantiapala Marine police station IIC Naresh Kumar Sahoo.
The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation, Sahoo said.
He was remanded to judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail plea, the officer added.
