8 contract killers arrested

Chandikhole, August 12: A special squad of Barchana police arrested eight persons on the charges of theft and for receiving contract to eliminate a vendor at the RTO in Kendrapara Wednesday.

Sadashiv Singh (21) and Subrat Dash (21) of Charibatia under Dharmasala police limits, Tarini Prasad Moharana (22) of Gandhi Square in Chandikhole, Nilamani Kabi (28) of Banpur in Bhadrak, Narayan Sahu (22) of Barakana under Jenapur police limits, Gurucharan Patra ( 30) of Chahapada in Cuttack, Goutam Jena (22) of Sarangpur under Kalinganagar police limits and Choudhury Bijay Reddy (25) of Chandikhole were arrested while they were preparing the blueprint of a robbery at Subhadrapur Square.

A country-made gun, three mobile phones and two motorcycles were seized from them during the raid. A case was registered and the accused were produced in a court. The eight are accused of receiving Rs 1 lakh in advance for a contract to eliminate RTO vendor Kartik Sahu of Kendrapara. They were to receive another Rs 3 lakh after the assignment.

Two persons accused of negotiating the contract were also detained, said ASP Dhruba Charan Puhan at a press meet. The accused have criminal antecedents and have several cases pending against them in various police stations in and outside the district.

During interrogation, Bijay, Sadashiv, Subrat and Tarini confessed to have received Rs 1 lakh as advance to eliminate Kartik. The accused had fired at Kartik but he narrowly escaped. Later, Kartik lodged a complaint with the Town police station in Kendrapara.
