Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police Friday detained eight persons for their alleged involvement in an attempt to sacrifice a child during a puja at a house in Raghunath Nagar of Dumduma area here late Thursday night.
However, the tantric and some of his associates managed to flee the spot taking the child, said an eyewitness.
“Last night at around 1:00am, we found around eight to 10 people coming to the house in a Bolero and on four bikes along with a child, who had a garland around his neck. We also spotted two pits that were dug near the house and various materials used for tantric rituals. When we asked them about the issue, the wife of the house owner scolded us and asked us not interfere in their matter,” said the eyewitness.
“Suspicious of their activities late in the night, we informed the police,” he added. As the news spread, a mob gathered outside the house.
A complaint was lodged with Khandagiri police in this connection. Police launched a manhunt for the key accused.
