Bhubaneswar: A total of 840 schools from Odisha are among the 13,092 schools across the country selected for transformation under the PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.
In a written reply in the Upper House, Chaudhary said the centrally sponsored PM SHRI scheme was approved by the Cabinet in 2022, and the allocation, release and utilisation of funds began in 2023-24.
“As of now, a total of 13,092 schools have been selected under the PM SHRI scheme across the states/UTs,” the minister said.
The state- and UT-wise number of schools selected under the PM SHRI scheme includes 1,888 in Uttar Pradesh, 982 in Andhra Pradesh, 946 in Maharashtra, 944 in Madhya Pradesh, 904 in Bihar, 840 in Odisha, and 832 in Telangana.
Karnataka has 660 PM SHRI schools, according to the reply. As informed by the Karnataka government, the district-wise details of funds allocated, released and utilised under the PM SHRI scheme during the financial years (FYs) 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 were also provided in the reply.
During FY2023-24, the approved Project Approval Board (PAB) outlay for various districts of Karnataka was Rs5,023.46 lakh, while funds amounting to Rs2,350.72 lakh were released and expenditure stood at Rs991.42 lakh.
During FY2024-25, the approved PAB outlay was Rs24,593.09 lakh, while Rs1,856.32 lakh was released and expenditure stood at Rs1,102.01 lakh.
Similarly, during FY2025-26, the approved PAB outlay was Rs26,902.07 lakh, while Rs20,726.84 lakh was released and expenditure stood at Rs13,245.57 lakh.
