86 petrol pumps looted customers

Bhubaneswar: If you are going to petrol pumps to refuel your vehicle, beware that 86 petrol pumps in Orissa have tampered with their equipment to cheat the consumers.
This information was revealed by Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in a communication to state government.
The petrol pumps are also involved in the nation-wide racket run by petrol pump dealers wherein they were tampering electronic equipment in dispensing units with the help of authorised technicians as a result of which the consumers were receiving less fuel.
The racket was busted by Commissioner of Police, Thane in June 2017 and till now 33 people have been arrested in this connection.
A crime branch team along with local police, officers of oil marketing companies, state government and technicians also raided two petrol pumps in Sambalpur district in August this year.
Later, the police have arrested one Dambarudhar Lalman Mohanto, who revealed that after the scam was busted in Uttar Pradesh. On the request of dealers, he has replaced the tampered equipment with normal ones at around 90 places in various parts of Orissa, the ministry said.
During interrogation, Mahanto has given a list of 86 such petrol pumps in Orissa.
The Thane police have forwarded the list of 86 such petrol pumps to the Director General of Police, Orissa and Controller of Legal Metrology for further legal necessary action. The ministry has requested the state government to forward the action taken report in the matter.
