Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to construct a nine-storey building at Unit V in the capital city to bring all directorates and other government offices under one roof.
The building will be constructed in front of Nirman Soudh near Power House Square, according to sources in the works department.
The demolition of few old government buildings, including offices of the town planning, agriculture and health departments, has almost been completed and construction of the nine-storey building would start soon, the chief engineer (building) Hareskrushna Padhi said.
“The general administration department has 8.3 acres of land at the proposed site. The building will be constructed on 30,000 square feet at an estimated cost of `123.94 crore,” Padhi said.
The basement will have enough space for 400 cars to be parked. The building will have all modern facilities such as lifts, central airconditioning, and special access paths for differently-abled people, he said.
A renowned private construction firm has been engaged to construct the building, which will have all facilities under the norms for a green building prescribed by The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri). The government aims to complete the construction within two years.
“It will be a green building. High-quality glass will be used in the construction of the building to help control temperature. A rooftop solar system will also be installed. It will also have a rainwater-harvesting system and a wastewater treatment plant,” the chief engineer said.
The building will also have a conference hall, canteen, waiting room for visitors, security points and mechanised gates.
Offices of the Orissa State Disaster Mitigation Authority, the proposed steel and secondary education directorates and some other offices functioning from rented premises would be located in the new building, sources said.
