Koraput, March 7: Nine Maoists, including two women cadre, surrendered before the police in Koraput district Saturday, inspector general of south-western range Yashwant Singh Jethwa told the media here.
The surrendered Maoists are Krushna Praska, Suna Mandangi, Sudarshan Patra, Kumulu Miniaka, Sandreya Mandangi, Pustuna Hirilika, Saja Maniaka, Sarbu Wadeka and Ajit Mandangi. The Naxalites were part of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh in 2009 but had joined the Maoists of Andhra-Orissa zonal committee, police said, adding, they were helping the CPI (Maoists) in Narayanpatna area.
They were also organising meetings, counselling people to join the Maoist movement, conducting anti-government programmes and involved in several land mine blast cases, Jethwa informed the media. Koraput superintendent of police Charan Singh Mina, commandant Pravin of 120 BSF and commandant Subrat of 143 BSF were present at the press meet.
The role of these Maoists is suspected in the abetment of Maoist crimes between 2009 and 2013 under Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon police limits. They would be rehabilitated as per government norms, Jethwa added.
