Cuttack: Mangalabag police Wednesday raided an adulterated ghee manufacturing unit in Professorpara area here and arrested its owner.
Police have registered a case (292/2016) under Sections 120B, 420, 482, 272, 273 and 43 of IPC, 78 and 79 of Trade and Merchandise Act, and 103 and 104 of the Trade Mark Act against the accused.
“We have arrested Subash Chandra Behera on charges of operating the unit and seized huge quantity of adulterated ghee, stickers of branded ghee manufacturing firms, ghee manufacturing and packaging equipment,” police added.
Acting on specific information a special team, led by Mangalabag inspector in-charge Arun Kumar Swain, raided the unit and made the arrest and the seizure.
“During interrogation, Behera confessed that the ghee was prepared by using 90 per cent of palm oil and other chemicals. We have found some containers with lubricants. However, Behera could not give satisfactory reply about using lubricants in ghee preparation,” Swain said, adding the seized ghee will be sent to public health department laboratory and police lab in Bhubaneswar for examination. The adulterated ghee was being supplied to 10 places including Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Angul, Balasore and Bhadrak, police said.
