Rayagada, Feb 2: A group of people of Ambaguda, Siriguda, Tumbiguda, Ramachandrapur and six other villages situated on the outskirts of Rayagada town Monday met collector Sashi Bhushan Padhi and urged him to initiate action against a chit-fund company that had duped them.
The people also urged the collector to take steps to ensure that the investors get their money back.
The chit-fund company has defrauded hundreds of customers of a total of more than `4 crore, the investors alleged in a memorandum presented to the collector Monday. Most of the people who had deposited money in different schemes of the company are very poor and would suffer a lot if they do not get their money back.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating into the chit-fund scams that have rocked the state, has sealed the firm’s head office in Bhubaneswar, the investors pointed out. The branch office of the company at Rayagada was also shut down, they said. As a result, the investors are uncertain whether or not they will be able to get their money back.
The investors requested the collector to take all possible steps to protect the interests of the investors. They warned that they would take their fight to the streets if the administration did not help them.
Collector Padhi advised the investors to file a complaint against the company with the police. Thereafter, the investors decided to lodge a complaint against the micro-finance company.
