Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: The state government has appointed Koraput district judge Bidyut Kumar Mishra as head of the Commission of Inquiry into the Kunduli rape case.
The Home department recently issued a notification in this regard, a copy of which is available with Orissa POST.
The notification says the commission will investigate three aspects: Sequence of events alleged to have led to the purported crime; the person(s) responsible for the incident and any other matter connected with or incidental thereto, “as the commission may consider appropriate”. The panel has been instructed to complete the probe within three months.
The commission will headquartered at Jeypore but can hold sittings at any place as required for the investigation. The state crime branch will continue with the investigation treating it as a Red Flag case, it said.
October 10 last, a minor tribal girl of Musaguda village under Pottangi police station in Koraput had alleged that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by uniformed men.
The incident sparked much interest statewide, with opposition parties staging protests, demanding justice for the girl. The police, however, has maintained that the girl was not raped.
