Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: A student of Rama Devi Women’s College was seriously injured after a motorcyclist hit her leading to a commotion on the campus, Tuesday.
College student union president Swasti Nayak said Sudeshna Biswal, a first year Plus III commerce student, sustained serious injuries when a motorcyclist hit the latter while she was crossing the road along with her friends on Janpath.
“Three boys riding a motorcycle hit Sudeshna at 11.30am. We then lodged a complaint with Saheed Nagar police,” Swasti added.
The students said Sudeshna’s right leg got injured in the incident. The students immediately rushed her to Capital Hospital where she underwent a surgery. She was discharged from the hospital later. The enraged students blocked both the lanes of Janpath in protest for around two hours after the incident and demanded barricades and speed-breakers in front of the college.
The students pointed out barricades were placed for a couple of days and then they were removed. They demanded speed-breakers in front of the college saying several students have been injured in such accidents.
The students also burnt tyres on the roads to express their anguish. However, they decided to call off the protests after Sahid Nagar police station inspector-in-charge assured them that speed-breakers will be constructed in front of their college by Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the police said they were investigating the matter and trying to nab the three boys one of whom was also injured in the incident.
