Bhubaneswar: Students of Dhauli college of Art and Craft organised a cleaning programme at Dhauli shanty stupa here on the Republic day.
The students of the college cleaned and pickup the garbage such as egg shells, plastic, papers etc from the tourist spot and also spread message of maintaining cleanliness. They also hoisted the national flag on the occasion.
Panchanan Samal, principal of the college stressed on the need to make people more sensitive and concerned towards environmental pollution.
A number of tourists visiting the monument also lent a helping hand to the students in cleaning the surroundings.
Rakesh Ranjan Mishra an art student of the college said that the concept of Swaach Bharat and cleanliness is godliness will remain just concepts or ideas till such time people continue to litter their surroundings. He stressed the need to spread awareness in this connection.
Earlier, the students had also prepared a statue of goddess of learning Saraswati, using saal leaves, to mark the occasion of Sarawawti puja. They used 3000 leaves and took a week to prepare the statue. (PNN)
