Loisingha: At a time when neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are conspiring to plunder the natural resources of the state by taking over border villages, the district administration seems to have no interest in the villages that are likely to be taken over by others.
With no attention from the administration the villagers are pawns in the hands of nearby states. Interestingly, there are many villages where the collector, BDO and other senior officials have not even set foot till now.
A case in point is Gandapali village of Gaisilet block in Bargarh district. Situated on the border of Bargarh and Bolangir districts, the village has no basic things like roads, education facilities, Anganwadis, electricity and water supply.
Although the government has launched many schemes for rural development the village has not yet benefitted from them. Except for assurances during elections, the village has not got anything, locals complained.
Neglected by Bargarh administration locals here depend on Bolangir, reports said. The village is 90 km away from Bargarh while it is just 15 km away from Loisingha. This makes it easy for people to travel to Loisingha for their daily needs.
With a population of 700, the village houses 80 families. Although there is a primary school that accommodates 30 students, only two teachers have been engaged to take care of the students. So, the students prefer Loisingha block for high schools. On the other hand, they go to Kusang and Sardapali in Bolangir district for college.
The village lacks a concrete road to reach the panchayat and block office. Drinking water is a huge problem for the villagers as tube wells here are defunct. The insensitivity of the Bargarh administration has forced us to depend on Bolangir, locals complained.
This insensitivity of the administration gives a chance for nearby states to take over villages. The locals demand that the administration take notice before it is too late. PNN
