Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday announced cash prize of Rs one lakh each for National Bravery Award winners from the state.
Mamata Dalai and Pankaj Mahanta had received the National Bravery Award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi January 24.
The Chief Minister also announced that the state government will give similar cash prizes to children from the state who would win the award in the future. The CM made the announcement while felicitating Mamata and Pankaj at the Secretariat here Monday.
Mamata, a 6-year-old girl from Kendrapara district, was awarded for her chivalry, as she had saved her sister Ashanti Dalai from a giant crocodile by from a 5-ft-long crocodile after pulling her out from a pond April 6, 2017.
Pankaj, a 13-year-old boy from Keonjhar district, had saved three women from drowning in the Baitarani River.
