Bijepur: A labourer was crushed to death under a water tanker after the vehicle driver lost balance at Bileipali Square under Bijepur Police limits in Bargarh district Saturday morning.
He was identified as Ramesh Dharua (23) of Bandhupali village.
According to sources, a few labourers of Bandhupali were engaged in the construction work of an RTO training centre at Bileipali Square. After working till late hours, the workers slept at the construction site.
A water tanker, engaged in the construction work, ran over the labourer while he was asleep. The driver is said to have lost control over the steering wheel. Co-workers rescued him and rushed him to the local Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police seized the body and sent it for autopsy. A case was registered and the vehicle was seized. The driver has been absconding, fearing arrest.
