Kendrapara: An eight-year-old girl from Derabish area in Kendrapara district was allegedly raped by an inhabitant of nearby Haladia village in Tangi area. Accused Mihir Kumar Singh was held after a complaint was lodged by the girl’s family Thursday night.
The eight-year-old was playing with her brother and sister near a pump house in the village when Singh, reportedly in an inebriated state, offered them small sums of money -Rs 4, Rs 10 and Rs 5 respectively to entice them. Then, he took the 8-year-old inside the pump house and raped her while the others continued playing.
Later, all the three returned home and the victim girl revealed the matter to her parents. The parents preferred to refer the matter to the village elders, and not to the police. They approached the cops later under pressure from some people in the village.
“The minor girl has been sent for a medical examination while the statements of other two siblings have been recorded. The accused has been detained and an investigation is on,” cops said.
In another incident in Keonjhar, the Telkoi police Friday arrested a youth for an alleged attempt to rape a minor girl in her house.
As per police, the girl was sleeping when the accused, Arakhyita Nayak of Bena village, went there in an inebriated state and forced himself on her. The family lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrest.
