Keonjhar, Feb 10: Despite repeated complaints about ongoing unauthorised, unplanned construction and allegations about illegal occupation of government land, the district administration and municipal authorities have allegedly not taken action against those responsible for such activities. Many councillors had opposed it, but to no avail.
Tuesday, several councillors like Dillip Behera, Sushri Sangita Nanda, Satrughna Nayak, Prabhati Patnaik and others
registered a complaint with the northern range revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) NPS Rajput.
In their complaint, they accused a civic body staff of promoting such illegal activities in civic body areas. They demanded stern action against him.
They stated that scores of houses are being built on important government land in the town, particularly in wards
11 and 21. The councillors further stated that the town planning unit and the municipality just serve notices to encroachers, but no action is being taken against them in reality, which had indirectly promoted such illegal activities. They pointed out that inaction against encroachers has led to resentment among residents. Taking a serious note of repeated complaints, collector Bishnu Prasad Sahu had earlier asked the executive officer of the municipality to conduct a probe against the staff, who is accused of promoting such illegal
activities. The collector also sought to know why no action is being taken against the illegal occupants of
government land and the people indulging in unplanned construction.
Meanwhile, a probe has begun, but
people are not happy over it. It is also
alleged that unplanned and illegal constructions have added to traffic chaos in the town. Many big hotels, houses,
market complexes and malls have come up over government land, in violation of proper legal and plan procedures, it is alleged.
