Bhuban: Police Saturday arrested a man and produced him in court on charges of killing his wife and hanging her body from a tree in a forest near the village to mislead the police and show it as a case of suicide.
He was identified as Dukhabandhu Pradhan of Patna village under Bhuban Police limits in Dhenkanal district.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred May 14. Over a family feud, Pradhan killed his wife Bambhi Pradhan. He then took the body to a hill near the village and hanged it from a tree.
Villagers suspected foul play when Bambhi was seen nowhere in the village. However, Pradhan misled the villagers saying that she had gone to a relative’s house.
Later, some villagers who were out to graze cattle in the forest spotted the body and alerted the police after which the matter came to the fore. Again, Pradhan tried to shift public focus claiming that Bambhi had committed suicide by hanging herself.
However, Bambhi’s brother accused Pradhan of killing his sister and lodged a complaint. Later, during police interrogation, Pradhan confessed to his crime and revealed the whole murder plot.
