Sambalpur: Police busted a fake lubricant factory at Sunapali under Dhanupali police limits here Thursday and arrested four persons in this connection.
They also seized 780 ltrs of fake lubricants and other materials.
Prime accused Mahesh Agarwal (49) of Rourkela, Md Yakub (41), Md Gosh (50), Md Manwar Alam (49) of Sunapali were arrested during a raid, said SP Sanjeev Arora at a press meet at Dhanupali police station.
The accused were produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.
The accused used to sell the lubricants in Sambalpur, Rourkela and Sundargarh with the help of their network that is spread up to Kolkata, the police said.
Agarwal, who live in Rourkela, used to run the factory from the houses of Gosh and Manwar in Sunapali area. He would procure bottles and stickers carrying the logos of branded lubricants from Kolkata and adulterate the product by refining oil of cheaper prices with burnt lubricants.
He would sell the adulterated lubricant packaged in bottles with labels of well known brands at cheap price.
A case was registered and a further investigation would be undertaken by keeping the lubricant companies in the loop, the SP said, adding the stocks in lubricants shops will also be verified.
Raids will be conducted at shops where adulterated lubricants are being sold, the SP said.
