Berhampur: In a horrific incident, police Thursday morning recovered a decomposed and naked body of a middle-aged woman without clothes and her limbs tied using a rope alongside the main road near Sorala Chhak under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district.
Belonging to a Telugu community, the deceased woman is about 45 years old. A scientific team was pressed in service to probe the incident.
People of the nearby villages spotted the body around 7.30 am and informed police. While cause of the death remained unclear, locals suspected that the woman was gang-raped and subsequently murdered.
Later, the ‘rapists’ dumped the body on the deserted stretch on the National Highway between Golanthara and Girisola Check Gate to erase evidence. Preliminary investigation revealed the woman was not a native and did not belong to any of the nearby villages.
