Cuttack: Curiously, the two-day remand of the prime Salepur rape accused was cut short to two hours by the police after he attempted suicide. He was produced before a special court and has been sent to Chaudwar jail, police said Sunday.
Originally, the police had sought and got a two-day remand of Md Mustaq for interrogation. But, as he tried to end his life, cops quickly ended the remand period and he was produced before court.
Police pointed out that Mustaq had attempted suicide inside the toilet of Salepur jail. It was because of this risk factor that the police decided to immediately shift his location to another more secure jail.
During the two-hour interrogation, the police took him to the spot where he had committed the crime. There he was asked to partly have a replay of his crime.
Mustaq allegedly raped the six-year old minor and then attempted to kill her by strangulating, April 21. The victim had been rescued in a serious condition with injuries and rushed to a hospital. She died April 29.
