Sundargarh: As many as three persons including two brothers were killed after being struck by lightning during a hockey match at Shankarabahal village near Talsara in this district Sunday evening.
Two others were also seriously injured in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Sumant Gouda, his brother Susant Gouda and Rabi Narayan Danti.
The tragedy struck when a hockey match was being played between the youths of the village. Half-way into the match, heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface wind and thundershowers hit the village.
To avoid getting wet, the players took shelter under a tree. However, lightning struck them, leading to the death of the three on the spot,
The injured players were rushed to the Sundargarh government hospital.
Bodies of the deceased persons have also been taken to the hospital for post-mortem.
