Malkangiri: To make their presence felt, Maoists have resumed violent activities and are threatening people in Malkangiri district.
Reports said a Mixer and a Roller machine engaged in road construction at Kartanpali panchayat under Mathili block in Malkangiri district was set on fire by Maoists. A handwritten poster was recovered from the spot, warning the contractor against undertaking the work.
According to sources, armed ultras reached the construction site where work for the Sanagumma-Luler-Durkaguda road was going on under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana. In a jiffy, they set the equipment on fire. They also ransacked a water spraying machine before fleeing the spot.
A sum of Rs 4crore had been sanctioned for the road a couple of years back. However, the contractor started the work only last week amid repeated threats from the ultras. Police intensified combing operations. eom
