Balasore: Two policemen faced the wrath of an angry couple after the men in uniform questioned them in allegedly provocative police language for riding a two-wheeler without helmet. The two cops were allegedly drunk.
Police said the angry couple beat the two up in full public glare at Anji Bazaar under Soro police limits in this districtSundaynight. The entire episode was recorded by passers-by present on the spot. The cops were Sarat Chandra Dhal, ASI of Saud police outpost and constable Gangadhar Behera, while the couple was Kasiruddin Shah and his wife.
When the cops waved the couple to a halt and questioned them for not wearing helmet, and sought a fine, it turned into a wordy duel. The style of police questioning, in which abusive words were allegedly hurled, was too provocative for the couple to bear. An angry Shah and his wife allegedly slapped the cops and manhandled them in full public glare. The cops were allegedly slapped by the couple with their slippers.
The incident took place in one of the busiest markets of the town, but no one bothered to intervene. Based on a complaint by the two cops, police registered a case and launched a probe.
