Berhampur: Tension prevailed after fragments of plastic and polythene were recovered from a curd packet of a renowned brand at the girls’ hostel of Kabiraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurvedic College in Ankushpur near hereSaturday.
The inmates had bought the curd packets for making lassi in their hostel premises. They were surprised to see the strange pieces in it. More surprisingly, these were more in quantity than the curd, in the pack.
Sources said adulteration of food is not new in the Silk City as spurious food items of various known brands are openly available in the market.
Fragments of lead, polythene and plastic had been noticed in food packets from the fast food centres etc in the past. There is little fear of the law due to collusion and corrupt practices of the food safety and other officials.
The district administration generally ignored such complaints and desisted from taking action against the guilty. Food security inspector Tapaswini Behera said samples of various food items available in the market would be examined and action taken against unscrupulous traders.
