Birajakhetra: Police Saturday arrested three inter-state highway looters following a raid here in Jajpur district, SDPO Prasant Kumar Malla told media persons Saturday at a press meet held in his office.
The three were identified as Satyanarayan (26) of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, M Nani (22) and Mani Pradhan (20) of Rabana village in Jajpur district.
According to police, the three used to stay in a rented house in Jajpur Road and target crowded locations to commit crimes. They also looted several vehicles from the highways.
The three were involved in the loot of Rs 45,000 that took place recently near a Jajpur Road branch of State Bank of India.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Tulasi Mahapatra, police registered a case and launched a probe. A special team was formed to nab the looters. Later, the team arrested the three and seized two motorbikes, five bank pass books, five mobile phones and side box-breaking tools from their possession.
The accused have recently looted more than Rs 6 lakh from the commuters, the SDPO revealed.
