Balasore: Unidentified miscreants looted cash to the tune of Rs 36 lakh from two ATM machines here in Balasore district late Friday night.
While Rs 26 lakh was looted from one ATM in Sunhaat, the miscreants decamped with Rs 10 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI) branch ATM at ITI square. The miscreants used advanced equipments including a gas cutter to break open the ATM machines and fled with the money.
The matter came to the fore after locals spotted the broken ATM machines Saturday morning and alerted the police. After getting information, police reached the spot and took stock of the incident.
The police swung into action and formed a special team to carry out further investigation into the case. The forensic experts were pressed in service for the probe. The miscreants had come in a vehicle without any registration number, police suspected after preliminary investigation.
Balasore SP, B Jugal Kishore confirmed the loot of the cash. “The forensic team has been deployed for probe and a special force has been formed to nab the miscreants,” SP Kishore added.
