Salepur: Mohammad Mustafa, accused in the Salepur minor rape case, was produced before POCSO court here Friday. Cops have sought a two-day remand of the accused for further interrogation.
Mustafa, arrested for the crime, had allegedly attempted suicide in the Salepur sub-jail toilet Wednesday night by hanging himself with a ‘gamcha’. He was rescued by the jail staff.
The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5lakh to the family of the victim. The girl died of injuries after struggling for life for a week at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, April 29. It was April 21 that the girl was rescued from a school veranda with injuries on her head, face, chest and private parts.
