Salepur: Mohammad Mustafa, prime accused in the Salepur minor rape case, attempted suicide inside Salepur Sub-Jail Wednesday night, police reported Thursday. Mustafa tried to hang himself with a gamchha in the latrine and the jail staff rescued him after they noticed what was happening.
Another fresh case under IPC has been added against the accused for this act.
The state government has provided an ex-gratia of Rs 5lakh to the family of the victim, who succumbed to her injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital after struggling for life for nine days. The girl had been rescued with injuries on her face, chest, head and private parts and scratching marks on her neck April 21 from a school verandah. She had been rushed to a local hospital.
The victim was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital after her condition deteriorated further. Doctors could not save her. The minor rape incident has already been designated as a Red Flag case by the Crime Branch.
