Dhenkanal: The family of a 14-year-old differently-abled girl, who was allegedly molested by a youth, has complained of police inaction Friday. The family alleged that the police was shielding the accused and that he was roaming free.
The family went to the district collector’s office and in his absence handed over a written complaint to the additional collector and the SDPO.
The accused was Chikoon Sahu of Amna village under Kantabania police limits in this district. The incident occurred May 22 when the victim went to the toilet. The youth strayed inside the toilet and molested her. When the girl cried for help, he gave her a Rs 20 note in the hope he would remain silent. “My mother heard my screams and rescued me,” the victim said.
The accused managed escape. The victim’s parents then lodged a police complaint. No action has been taken against the accused. “He molested my child. The police are not paying any heed to our complaint. The accused is roaming free and they are threatening to kill us if we pursued the case,” said her mother.
“The allegation of police inaction is incorrect. We are investigating the case,” informed Sheikh Abdul Karim, SDPO.
