G. Udayagiri: A woman home guard was allegedly gang raped by an Army jawan and an Armed Police Reserve (APR) constable at Telisahi near here in Kandhamal district Friday night.
The matter came to the fore after the victim lodged a complaint with G. Udayagiri police station against the Army jawan and APR constable Saturday.
Police detained the two accused for interrogation. The jawan has been identified as Tulu Pradhan (32) of Tikabali and is currently posted at Army’s Bihar regiment while the identity of the APR constable is yet to be known.
Tulu was on official furlough when he committed the crime, it was known.
According to reports, the woman home guard, serving near G.Udayagiri, resides alone at a rented house in Telisahi. Taking advantage, Tulu and the constable barged into her house while she was alone at the house Friday night. They gagged her and took her to the roof of the house.
A case has been registered under section 448, 341, 323, 354, 376, 114, 506 and 34 following the written complaint.
“The victim has been sent for medical examination. Two accused have been detained and being interrogated,” said G. Udayagiri OIC Balakrushna Kanhar.
