Chhendipada: Tension ran high at Katada village near Jarpada on National Highway-55 in Angul district after the body of a driver was found from a water tanker Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Gyanendra Dehuri of Durgapur village, driver of the water tanker. He was working for Gayatri construction company.
Alleging murder, around 50 people comprising Dehuri’s relatives, family members and fellow villagers blocked the NH.
The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the accused and necessary compensation for the bereaved family. They said Dehuri was the sole bread earner in the family.
The blockade disrupted vehicular movement between Sambalpur and Cuttack for a couple of hours.
According to reports, Dehuri after his work had parked the vehicle near an eatery late Friday night. Family members, searching for him, found his body inside the water tanker.
The family members accused that the eatery owner had a role in the crime.
After receiving information about the road blockade, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. After pacifying the mob, the body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
The agitators relented after the police assured them that a thorough inquiry would be conducted.
