Monsoon is here and it’s time to give your stilettos and high-heeled shoes a break. What to wear is a troubling question in rainy weather, especially when it comes to choosing the right footwear.

When it rains, go for clogs, crocs, flip-flops and shoes with rubber soles, fashion experts say. Known for their comfort, lightweight nature and flexibility, they are your best friends during monsoon.

Knee-high rain boots can do the trick when puddle jumping or wading into a creek, but wearing ten pounds of rubber on your feet isn’t necessary when you’re just hoping to get to and from work without soggy socks.

Bhubaneswar based fashion designer, Ananya Patnaik gives a few tips onchoosing the right footwear in the season of unpredictable showers and staying fashionable: the clog style shoes, flats, slickers are ideal in rainy weather. Crocs are trendy and they go withboth the weather and style.

Crocs are an ideal choice when you are heading out for a quick catch-up with a friend or even for an evening walk. Teaming it up with denims can do wonders. Go for bright coloured crocs for a vibrant monsoon look. Slip into crocs for a relaxed feel and put away your fears of soggy footwear.Unlike boots, they won’t seem “too huge” but their casual appeal makes them suitable for daily wear.

“Jelly shoes” aretopping the trend these days, says Ananya, as they are easy to matchwith all outfits, be it casual, party or any other occasion. The vibrant colours add a charm to the overall outfit defying all the rules of monsoon. Jelly shoesare equally preferred over any other category of foot gear as they belong to the ‘repelling water’ category.

When it drizzles, go for knee high ankle shoes. Pair it with high-waist shorts or skirts to pull off the chic look.

Monsoons are the best time to flaunt flip-flops and there is no footwear that is more comfortable. The best part about wearing flip-flops is that one can walk comfortably without the risk of slipping on wet floors.

Talking about colours, Ananya said, “Most people opt for greys and blues but withjelly foot gear, one can havea variety of colours which can brighten the dull mood created bywetweather. Colour coordinate your footwear with your outfits and cheer up this monsoon.”

When we hear the word ‘rain’, the first thing that comes to mind is a dark, wet and gloomy atmosphere, but Bhubaneswar-based fashion designer Roshan has an answer for that. He says, “Brighten up your look with flip-flops, sandals, floaters and various styles of sleepers without worrying about the mud puddles.”

Roshan also advocates the use ofrubber footwear. “These are not something new and will remain in trend forever. Rubber footwear is extremely comfortable, water resistant and prevents water from seeping in. It can also up your fashion quotient,” headds.
