Soro: In a bizarre incident, a marriage venue was turned into a virtual battlefield with people wielding lathis beat
up one another at Nuagaon in Balasore district.
The dispute, which started over shortage of food items during reception, soon turned into a scuffle.
The situation turned so violent that it forced the bride party to have the groom and his family members as hostage. At least seven persons sustained injuries in the scuffle. The injured were rushed to Soro community health center.
On getting information, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
According to reports Akshya Giri’s son from Dalang village was scheduled to marry the daughter of Prafulla Mohanty from Nuagaon. Prafulla arranged a reception as part of the marriage.
About 100 persons in ‘baratis’ reached with the groom in a procession. Reportedly there was only food for 30 people. This led to an ugly situation as some guests started abusing those who were in charge of
the reception. Following this both parties started attacking each other with lathis.
