New Delhi: The Supreme Court would hear a petition on alleged mismanagement of Srimandir affairs and other related issues almost a month after it passed an order curtailing the rights of the temple servitors for collecting donations.
The case has been listed to be heard by a two-judge bench of the apex court comprising Justice Adarsh Goel and Justice Abdul Nazeer Thursday.
Earlier, the court had asked the state government to file an interim report relating to the formation of a committee to study the management of the temple affairs after it visits several other shrines of the country. It had asked the Puri district judge to file a report on the temple affairs before June 30.
As per the office report in the case in the Supreme Court, the Puri district judge as well as the state government have filed their reports with the apex court as directed. While the state government had reportedly sought time till Rath Yatra for the visits of the team, it has also informed the court that the team has already been constituted.
On the other hand, a number of servitors have filed interlocutory applications through an SC lawyer to make sure their views and concerns are also addressed by the apex court.
In the last hearing June 8, the SC had ordered that there should not be direct collections of donations by the servitors. The order also asked the authorities to ensure that proper CCTV cameras are used inside the shrine to watch the goings-on.
The court had said that visitors should have a hassle free experience and the offerings made by them should not be misappropriated while the remunerations of the servitors be looked after by the authorities concerned.
