Keonjhar: Five members of a family were hospitalised after eating toxic wild mushroom that was collected from a forest at the Kolimati village near Junga panchayat in this district Friday night.
All of them had nausea, head reeling, vomiting and loose motion after having the mushroom curry Friday night. One of them later alerted their neighbours who rushed them to Keonjhar district hospital. Their condition was stated to be stable.
According to reports, head of the family Bakula Nayak picked up some wild mushroom during his visit to a nearby forest Friday evening. His wife prepared curry out of it for dinner and after eating it five of them fell ill.
With the onset of monsoon, the state has witnessed a rise in toxic mushroom-related food poisoning cases.
Earlier, five members of a family were treated for food poisoning after eating wild mushrooms in Kantarmua village under Telkoi block of the same district.
In another incident, at least 12 persons fell sick in Kundriguda village in Koraput district after consuming toxic mushrooms from the backyard of their houses.
The district administration rushed a team of health officials to the village to sensitise people against the consumption of toxic mushroom
