Baripada: A video showing some youths molesting two girls in a crowd possibly during Rath Yatra at Baripada has gone viral on social media. It was alleged that due to lack of proper security, women fall victim to misbehavior and molestation by anti-social elements. SP Abinash Kumar was aware of the incident.
“Security will be stepped up for Bahuda Yatra Sunday. Police in plain clothes will be deployed at various places to keep tabs on such elements. Immediate action will be taken if any complaint is filed in this regard,” said the SP.
After viral of the video, police identified a youth and detained him for two days, it was leant. However, as the girls refused to lodge any complaint, police set the youth free.
IIC Ashok Kumar Nayak said that in such cases, if the victims do not file any written complaint, action will not be taken. “If police register a case suo motu and the victim makes a U-turn, the police case will be proved false,” he explained.
The detained youth has been set free, but was asked to come to police station every day, he added.
For Rath Yatra, 20 police officials were deployed in plain clothes to keep tabs on such incidents.
