Bhubaneswar: While the ongoing nationwide strike of truck operators called by their umbrella body All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) entered its fourth day Monday, the All Odisha Transport Workers’ Federation has announced its participation in the 24-hour nationwide transport strike August 7.
“The strike has been called by All India Road Transport Federation and different trade unions including the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) demanding withdrawal of the decision to bring amendments in Motor Vehicle Act 1988, motor vehicle equipment and third party insurance and reduction in prices of diesel,” said All Odisha Transport Workers’ Federation general secretary Radharaman Sarangi in a press meet Sunday.
The owners and operators of heavy vehicles like auto-rickshaws, taxis, tankers, dumpers and trucks have been requested to make the strike successful, he added.
Notably, All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) started a nationwide indefinite strike July 20 demanding a reduction in central and state taxes by including diesel under the GST, quarterly review of fuel prices, a toll free India for seamless transportation of goods, need for transparency and reduction in third party insurance premium.
