Daringbadi: Police Saturday arrested a man on charge of raping a mentally-challenged minor at Daringbadi area in Kandhamal district. He was identified as Nameswar Pradhan of Brahmarbadi area.
Sources said the girl was often left behind in the house while her parents used to go for work. Taking advantage, Pradhan used to rape the girl. Being mentally challenged, the girl could not say anything to her parents who neither could get any slightest clue of the heinous crime.
However, the girl’s condition began deteriorating. Family members admitted her to a hospital where doctors confirmed the girl was pregnant. Based on a complaint by the victim’s parents, police registered a case and arrested Pradhan who confessed to the crime.
“The accused has been arrested and he will be produced in court tomorrow,” said Daringbadi IIC Alekh Garadia.
