Bhadrak: At a time when technology at fingertips has sidestepped the centuries-old postal service in the country, a shocking incident of non-delivery of letters over last 12 years has become the talk of the town in Bhadrak district.
Jagannath Puhan, the postmaster of Odanga sub-post office in Bhadrak has been accused of not despatching any letters or parcels in last 12 years.
The matter came to light after a few locals in the area found out that Puhan had intentionally kept the materials stashed in the office without delivering them since 2007.
Following the incident, Sarbeswar Mishra the Superintendant of Posts, Bhadrak ordered an enquiry into the matter. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused blatantly violated service norms.
‘We have suspended Puhan from his duties with immediate effect after he pleaded guilty for dereliction of duty,’ said Sarbeswar Mishra.
Meanwhile, the present post master has been assigned the responsibility of distributing the letters.
‘We will take up the issue with the higher authorities and ensure that strict disciplinary action is taken against the accused post master,’ Mishra said.
